Conservation projects are becoming increasingly complex because there are so many factors to consider - how to retain and interpret historic fabric,  how to balance that with modern intervention, how to obtain consents, raise funds, find suitable contractors and materials, and control costs and maintain safety.  The projects illustrated show how buildings have been rescued from the risk of collapse and brought back into use for the benefit of their owners and local communities, sometimes over a period of many years and through the involvement of charitable trusts.
